My brake fluid light keeps coming on ((!)), so I bought some brake fluid DOT 4 as directed, but I cant find the thing you top it up into. I know it should probably be on the drivers side near the windshield but nothing there seems to have an unscrewable cap marked brake fluid! Ive managed to locate everything else that needs levels checking/filling. I dont have a handbook, but Im trying to get one second hand. I will be getting it serviced soon, but cant do it yet as my partners car is in dock for serious repairs and we cant do without a car. Its just that the light is worrying me.
Thats where I was looking Des, but there isnt anything with a clear plastic reservoir up there. I was expecting to see something that looked like the power steering fluid thing but there isnt anything. There is a rectangular black plastic unlabelled box near the drivers side firewall with a large screw on the top but it doesnt look like something you fill. Im a bit mystified. Funny thing is, I thought I done it once before, years ago because I remember having to buy the DOT 4 fluid ... but maybe it was on another car!
Thank you all so much. I found it thanks to your photo. It was in the same position as the photo but about 4 inch further down into the engine and the top was covered by wires etc. It didnt have a yellow cap either, just a black one! Ive put some brake fluid in but there was already an amount in.... Because the reservoir was so low down I was unable to see any min and max marks. Husband has just come home (works late, useless with cars!) and has run it round the block and the light has stopped coming on. IM VERY IMPRESSED THAT YOUVE BEEN SO HELPFUL TO A NEWBIE. Thanks so much :Banane45: Whilst I was in there, just in front of the place where the brake fluid thing is, but up on the top, is a metal plate with a hole and a screw in. A wire with brown sheathing seems to have come adrift from this metal plate. I dont know if to just fasten it back on or ignore it. What do you think? I love this old car and want to keep it going as long as possible. Its just a great runabout for me and the kids.
