Trundling along the A3 at Butser Hill near Petersfild in my van on Monday going south, in slow moving traffic, some idiot in another van hogged the outside lane causing a mobile road block. All of a sudden I saw a Volvo coming alongside me, as it passed slowly, my son and I were aware it was not an 'ordinary Volvo' At first my son said, hey dad, it's a V70 'R' AWD like yours, and on second glance, I said oh no it isn’t, spot the deliberate mistakes! O-K, full marks for his enthusiasm, as it had twin port exits, and the R AWD badge in the correct place on the r/h side of the tailgate, but, 1 it was green, 2 it had a T5 badge under the Volvo logo on the l/h side of the tailgate, and 3 it had non standard 'R' wheels on it. Last but not least, the frustrated driver, when the road cleared, didn’t seem to have the power to take off. I thought this practise was reserved for frustrated BMW drivers who stick M3 badges on their standard 1.8’s? Out of interest, what cars have you seen on the road that are fakes? Regards David

Around 1998 I had a boss who had an 850, it was Olive Green and looked every part the T5-R, Exterior and Interior were fully specced to T5-R standards. Only Problem was it was a 2.0 Auto. Strangely he had ordered it that way from Volvo.

I'm in total agreement with you Dave, I don't quite know why anyone would portray a car to be quicker than it actually is. I, on the other hand, have never had so much fun than when I replaced the T4 badge on one of my previous cars, with a "TD" badge. Apart from confused looks at petrol stations when I was filling my "TD" car with Super Unleaded, I was asked if I could remove it, by my dealer, after they had 2 complaints from X40 "TD" owners who were perplexed as to why their cars were unable to keep up with mine and were adamant that there were faults with their cars.

Excellent Pyaap, always fun. I removed the spoiler from the Rover (less weight, less drag) and changed the wheels to ones off of the 216 version (clear the brakes without the need for spacers) side effects being that it now at first glance looks like the 112 bhp SOHC version with a loud exhaust fitted, looking at it closer the all round cut slicks, FMIC and lack of interior gives it away a bit but you wouldn't notice if the car was on the move. I once had a Transit van with a 3.1 tuned Essex V6 in it. Almost unbeatable up to about 70 ( in a straight line !!!) . Great fun! Pookie
